The writing hand emoji shows a single disembodied hand holding a pen as though about to write or draw. It is almost always depicted as a right hand, though LG’s software bucks this trend and goes for the left hand. The hand is usually a characteristic emoji yellow color, however some emoji platforms do allow for skin tone modification. The pen is usually black or blue, but in some versions it appears yellow or red. The emoji can be used to represent a wide range of scenarios and activities which require writing or creativity, including writing essays or doing homework, writing letters of complaint or apology, or just to say “I’m writing to you now”.
